There are around 160 significant mineral waters on the territory of Bulgaria. Warm and hot waters prevail, followed by hypothermal waters. The hottest (100° С) mineral water gushes out from the Gazer spring in Sapareva bania. Cold mineral waters are rare – only 1% from the overall hydromineral flow.

Weakly mineralized (83%) waters are prevalent in the country. They include not only akratotherms, but also significant number of radon, hydrogen sulphide, silicon and fluorine waters. Most uncommon are carbon waters. A number of chloride and sulphide waters are at the same time iodine-bromine mineral waters. Some sulphate waters are in the same time iron rich and arsenic waters.

Narechen

Narechen is a village in the Plovdiv Province, central Bulgaria. The village is notable for its hypothermal mineral springs which have transformed it into an important spa resort.

Pavel Bania

Pavel Banya is most known for its natural mineral springs. Mineral water in Pavel Banya is used in paid public and private baths for healing. Pavel Banya has nine hot springs with temperatures of around 50°C (122° F). Two of the hot springs serve strictly for medical purposes and frequently admit patients suffering from bone and joint disorders, orthopedic trauma, and central nervous system problems. The mineral water of Pavel Banya is characterized by weak mineralization (low quantity of dry matter per liter, about 2 grams) and hyperthermality – 57° to 59°C at the spring. The water is rich of hydrocarbon, metasilicon, radon, and fluorine. The mineral water in Pavel Banya is a large reason for nearby country-inhabitants to visit.

Strelcha

The favourable microclimate, nature and mineral water springs, combined with the rich history and natural sights, have turned Strelcha into a national spa resort all around the year.

Kyustendil

Kyustendil is a national balneological resort at an altitude of 600 metres. There are more than 40 mineral springs in the town. The waters have a high content of sulfite compounds. These are used for the treatment of the locomotory system, gynecological and other kinds of diseases. The resort region includes several baths, balneological complexes and others.

Kyustendil is located at the foot of the Osogovo mountain, on the banks of the Banshtica River and is a well-known centre of balneology and fruit growing. The town is 90 kilometres southwest of Sofia, 69 km. northwest of Blagoevgrad and 22 km. from the border with the Republic of Macedonia and Serbia.

Sapareva Bania

Mineral water of Separeva banya was highly regarded and used as a cure by Thracians and Romans. Saparevian mineral water is clear, colorless, with smell of hydrogen sulfide, hyperthermal (temperature 103°C), hydrocarbonate, sulphate-sodium, fluorine, silicon and sulphide. Hydrogen sulfide is 15,5 mg / L. It is claimed that the water treats disorders of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and upper respiratory tract, and metal poisoning.

Bankya

Bankya is a small town and district located on the outskirts of Sofia in western Bulgaria. It is administratively part of greater Sofia. The district is famous for the mineral springs and baths that have been used for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. Today Bankya is a popular destination for tourism and balneological treatment.
