Anesthesia and Resuscitation is a science that focuses on the problems of general anesthesia in surgery, intensive care and resuscitation.
Resuscitation (lat. reanimatio – "revive", "return to consciousness") is a first aid, an emergency procedure of a cardiac massage and an artificial respiration in establishing a (sudden) loss of consciousness due to cessation of blood circulation and respiration (or both).
This procedure can be performed in a medical facility by specially trained staff or in outpatient conditions by people who have undergone short training courses. Science called resuscitation deals with the development of methods of reanimation.
This procedure combines rhythmic physical pressure on the chest to create sufficient circulation for maintaining oxidation level of the brain with an artificial respiration. The pressure on the chest creates conditions for at least minimum blood circulation.
In most cases, the main purpose is to restore brain oxygenation for possible exit from the state of shock.
Thus time is saved until a defibrillator is brought – this is an apparatus for defibrillation (electrocution). Timely defibrillation can return the heart rhythm and restore blood circulation and breathing.The goal of defibrillation is to stop for a short time all excited pacemaker cells so to enable the main heartbeat to give an organized rhythm at that very moment.

The absence of some of these main activities of the body are summarized in an emergency status known as “clinical death”.
